MOVING FORWARD GULF COAST, INC. is a Louisiana based non-profit created in response to Hurricane Katrina and the subsequent devastation throughout the U.S. Gulf Coast. The founding of this organization was a collaborative vision of New Orleans native, Ron Hansell and Slidell native Colette Pichon Battle, who both made promises to their communities and families to help rebuild the Gulf Coast.
Moving Forward is dedicated to rebuilding a better Gulf Coast through the vision of its residents. By providing volunteer-based relief, Moving Forward strives for community empowerment and fosters collaborative efforts through community advocacy, training and creative programming.
• Recover & Restore: Video Advocacy Project
This project is a collaboration between Moving Forward and locally owned, Crescent City Media Group to document and advocate for justice in the issues facing the underserved residents of the Gulf Region.
As part of our mission to provide community advocacy and training, Moving Forward has established a series of media learning tools (video/DVD) to empower Gulf Coast residents with information relating to key issues in rebuilding the Gulf Coast. The Recover and Restore Series documents issues that have been identified by community groups throughout the Gulf Coast and relays solutions to residents who need it most.
Unlike a documentary, the video matches real questions of displaced residents with real answers from the folks on the ground with practical or professional experience in solving that particular problem. The series is called Recover and Restore because we want to recover those dispersed by Katrina and restore them to their rightful place in the Gulf Coast.

• Match Makers for Justice (M4J)
Match Makers for Justice (M4J) is an advocacy project created by local Louisiana attorneys, public interest attorneys from across the nation and the Student Hurricane Network (SHN) to pair displaced residents with law student advocates and provide information and technical assistance. Training for the community and the law students aims to effectively navigate government systems and gain access to quality jobs, education, health care, and housing. The project is currently underway and now housed at MFGC.
Students help with FEMA issues, Successions, Social Service resources and other issues crucial to the recovery of the Gulf Coast. If you are a displaced resident, law student or attorney and would like to get involved, please send an email to matchmakersforjustice@gmail.com.
Moving Forward fosters action that leads to change and provides information that leads to empowerment. By empowering residents to create and implement efficient, culturally relevant and customized solutions, neighbors will come together to build stronger communities and set an example for constructing a better world.
