Mission
To provide information to homeless families in New York City to enable them to find the resources, services, and other opportunities they need to put their lives in order.

Programs
We publish a free, monthly, bilingual newsletter called "HOW...WHEN...WHERE" with information and articles to encourage and enable homeless families to move toward self sufficiency while they are in the NYC shelter system and as they move into permanent housing . We publish and regularly update listings of food pantries, sources of free clothing, and job training programs. This year for the fourth time we sponsor a competition inviting children in the shelter system to submit writings, poems or art and reward all those who enter with an event and prizes.

Accomplishments
We have publshed "HOW...WHEN...WHERE" since June 1987 and now distribute 14,000 copies of each issue to 194 sites including all the shelters and hotels which provide homeless families with shelter plus many agencies that offer them needed services.

Goals
Our main goal is to provide essential, current and acccurate information on housing opportunities, job training, education for children, welfare rules, legal assistance, and other topics that are important to the success of homeless families as they work to restore their lives to order. We serve all the families in the city shelter system which at this moment total 9,388 with more than 13,000 children -- and at least twice that many in the course of a year. Beyond that we reach relocated and at-risk families through distribution to agencies like Catholic Charities and Legal Services that have over the years requested the newsletter.

Program Evaluation Methods
Three times in our 20 years of publication we have conducted formal readership surveys and found a high percentage of shelter residents read and use the content of the newsletter.
